Explorers and Adventurers
Over the last term in Willow class, we have been learning all about different famous Explorers and Adventurers. In English we have been exploring different stories related to adventures and expeditions. In History and Geography, we have been learning about Neil Armstrong, Christopher Columbus, Shackleton, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.
To continue the experience of our topic Explorers and Adventurers for the children, we created our very own orienteering expedition around Miserden village, so we can follow in the footsteps of inspirational people of the past and present. The children used their knowledge and skills of map reading and using a compass to locate different locations and items placed around the village. The aim was for the children to collect supplies along the way that they felt were important to them to help them in their intrepid expedition and also to consider which supplies were relevant for their expedition. e.g. would you rather have a candle or a torch for light, a lightsaber or and axe to chop some wood, or build a den or a have a tent for shelter?!
