Autumn 2015 – Term 1: Up, Up and Away!
The new school year is well underway and it has been great to welcome the new children and their families who have joined us this year.

Our topic this term is ‘Up, Up and Away’ through which the children will be investigating the history of flight - from ancient Kite making in China to the Wright Brothers! Have a look at our curriculum maps to give more information on this.

In addition to the main topic, it has been great to see the children engaged in team cooking activities, sports, Forest School and gardening. The older children have also been putting their ideas for the development of an outdoors spiritual area on paper for the rest of the school to consider.

The Plans for Forest school are well underway! The children have shared their ideas on what they would like to be included in Forest School over the coming year and these will be taken into account when building our plans. Mr Coles Jones and Mr Duberley have moved our new seating platforms into the Forest School area for us for us and Mrs Priestley has been working with me on our Forest School plans for learning that will be linked into the seasons and also the whole school Creative Curriculum topics. that will be linked to enjoy. A great big THANKYOU’ needs to be expressed to Mr Coles Jones who made the platforms and also to Adrian from Jewson who provided the materials for free!

We finished the first term with our Harvest Festival Celebrations where the children and staff dressed up for the occasion that was held St Andrew Church. All classes contributed to the service through the learning that they did in RE over the last week of the Terms. Thank you to everyone who supported this event, the produce collected will be sent to the Stroud Food bank.

Looking ahead:

In our first week back we will continue you with our RE topic ‘Who am I?’ Through this topic the children will reflect on their uniqueness. They will also have the opportunity to reflect on what is important to them and their families, the cultural traditions they have and the values that are important to them. The young children will reflect on their special times and the welcoming ceremony of Baptism for Christians.

We are all looking forward to the term ahead as we move towards Christmas. The year 6 children will be selling poppies in remembrance of all those who have sacrificed their lives for us. This year we particularly, as part of our ‘UP, Up and Away topic’, we remember those in the RAF who gave their lives in the Battle of Britain as this year it was the 75th Anniversary of this campaign.

As the term progresses we will have many exciting activities to enjoy, including, working with the children and staff of Cranham School and ISingpop to put on a Christmas Concert, fundraising for Children in Need and of course attending the pantomime at the Everyman! Bring on the new term!
